How to use NIMO
From the first product to your monthly numbers. Pick a topic, or read it top to bottom.
1Get started
NIMO runs on Android 7.0 or newer. The first time takes about five minutes.
- 1
Download the app from the Download page and install it. If Android asks, allow your browser to install apps (Settings, then “Install unknown apps”).
- 2
Open NIMO and sign in with one of the options on the welcome screen. Staff tap “I am staff: join with a code” instead (see Staff and team). Forgot your password? Tap “Forgot password?” on the sign-in page: we email you a code and you choose a new password.
- 3
Set up your business: its name, what you sell, the currency, the calendar (Ethiopian or Gregorian), the name of your first shop and, if you like, a logo.
- 4
Your free trial starts when you finish. You can use every feature during the trial.
2Add your products
Only the owner adds products. Open the Products tab and tap the + button, or tap “Scan a product’s barcode”.
- 1
Choose “Has a barcode” if the item already has one, or “No barcode: make one” and NIMO creates a barcode for it (see Print barcode labels).
- 2
With a barcode, the camera opens at the top of the page. Scan the item, then fill in the details underneath. You never have to open the camera again.
- 3
Fill in the product name, an optional photo, the category, the selling price and the cost price. The cost price is private to the owner.
- 4
Under Details, set the opening quantity (how many you have now) and “Alert when below” (NIMO warns you when stock falls under that number).
- 5
Tap Save.
- The same product often comes with different barcodes (a new batch, another factory). Scan each one into the same product: every barcode belongs to the same item and its stock is shared. The opening quantity is counted from the barcodes you add, and you can type another number.
- If you scan a barcode that already exists, NIMO tells you and asks whether you want to increase its quantity instead of adding it twice.
- Sizes and colours are variants. Tap “Add another variant” and give it a name such as “Blue / M”. Each variant has its own quantity, alert level and barcodes. A variant can also have its own price.
- To change a product later, open it and tap the pencil. You can add more barcodes there, or tap “Add stock”.
3Sell by scanning
- 1
Tap the big Sell button. The camera opens.
- 2
Scan each item. It joins the cart and the total updates. Use + and − to change a quantity, or tap a price to change it for this sale only. You can also search by name or type a code.
- 3
Tap Review sale. Choose “Same as list”, “Negotiated” (type the price the customer really paid) or “Set later” (record the sale now and confirm the price when the bargaining is over).
- 4
Tap Save sale. If the owner switched on “Generate receipts” (More page), a receipt opens with your business name, the shop name, the items and the total: print it or share it as a PDF, or tap New sale. If it is off, the app goes straight back to the sell page.
- You cannot sell more than the shop has in stock. If an item shows as out, add stock first.
- The owner can set a lowest price for staff (a percentage of the list price). Below it, staff must ask the owner.
- If the barcode is not in your products: the owner can add it as a new product or link it to an existing one. Staff send it to the owner, who sees it under “Product requests”.
- No internet? Keep selling. The sale is saved on the phone first and uploads by itself later.
4Sales and receipts
- On Home, under Recent sales, tap See all. Tap a sale to see its items, confirm a final price you left for later, or open its receipt again.
- Sales waiting for a final price are marked “Set final price”. Home reminds you about them.
- The owner can open Analytics, then “See all sales and filter”, to look through every sale. Filter by period, shop, who sold, price status, product, category and amount, sort the list, and export it to a CSV file for Excel.
5Keep your stock right
- 1
Received new goods? Open the product (or tap Add stock on Home), choose the item, enter how many came in and an optional cost and note.
- 2
Something broke or went missing? Open the product, tap the variant and choose Damaged, Lost or Correction. You cannot remove more than the shop has.
- 3
Moving goods between your shops? Use Move stock (under Shops). The first shop loses what the second gains, with one record.
- 4
Not sure the numbers are right? Open More, then Stock count. Count the shelf, review the differences and apply them. Sales made while you count are included automatically.
Every change is a record that shows who did it and when. Nothing is overwritten.
6Print barcode labels
Loose goods and clothes often have no barcode. NIMO makes one for them.
- 1
Add the product with “No barcode: make one”.
- 2
Keep “Print labels after saving” on. Choose the label size (a 40×30 mm roll or an A4 sheet of 3×8), set the number of copies and whether to show the price.
- 3
Tap “Print or share PDF”, print the labels and stick one on each item.
- Have a Niimbot B1 label printer? Open More, then Label printer, switch on Bluetooth, tap “Find my printer” and choose it. Then use “Print on the label printer” on the labels page. Use 40×30 mm label rolls. You can always print a PDF instead.
7Staff and team
- 1
Owner: open More, then Team, and make a join code for a shop. It is valid for 24 hours. Send the six characters to your staff.
- 2
Staff: on the welcome screen tap “I am staff: join with a code”, type the code, then sign in (if you have an account) or create one. You do not need to create a business, but you can add your own later from More.
- Staff can scan, sell and look up stock in their shop. They cannot add products, and they never see costs, profit or analytics.
- In Team the owner decides whether staff may change the final price and sets the lowest price they may give. You are notified when a sale is recorded under it.
- To remove someone, open them in Team and tap Remove from team. They lose access immediately and their past sales stay in your records.
8More than one business
- Your account has one business. To run another (for example a shop and a pharmacy), buy the extra business add-on in Subscription, then open More, then Your businesses, and tap Add a business. A new business does not get a free trial.
- To delete a business, open it in Your businesses and type its name to confirm. It disappears for you and your staff and cannot be brought back from the app.
9Pharmacies and drug stores
Choose “Pharmacy or drug store” as the business type when you create the business.
- Adding a product asks for the medicine details: brand name, generic name, form (tablet, syrup, injection…), strength, pack size, manufacturer and whether it needs a prescription.
- When you add stock, enter the batch number and the expiry date (month and year).
- Home and the Expiry page show batches that are expired or expiring in 30, 90 or 180 days. Stock does not record which batch an item came from, so NIMO assumes the batches that expire first are sold first.
- Selling a prescription-only medicine shows a reminder to check the prescription.
10More than one shop
- Open More, then Shops. Each shop keeps its own stock. Use the shop chip at the top of a screen to switch shop, or “All shops” to see everything together in Analytics.
- Your plan includes one shop. Extra shops are an add-on: tap Add another shop and pay the add-on price. The shop switches on once the payment is approved.
11Read your analytics
Analytics is for the owner only.
- Choose Today, Week or Month. You see revenue, estimated profit, the value of your stock, the number of sales and items sold, a daily chart, your top sellers, items that have not sold in 30 days, and sales by staff member.
- Revenue uses the final price the customer paid. Sales still waiting for a final price are counted at list price and marked as estimated.
- Profit is an estimate: selling price minus the cost price you entered.
12Pay for your subscription
Open More and tap Subscribe or Renew. Choose a plan, then how you want to pay. Every payment is checked and approved by hand, and you are notified.
- 1
Telebirr (birr): send the amount shown to the Telebirr number on screen. Write the code NIMO shows you in the note of the transfer. Then enter the Telebirr transaction ID, add a screenshot and tap Send for approval.
- 2
Grey, a US bank account (US dollars): send the dollar amount shown to the bank details on screen by ACH or wire. Put the code in the transfer reference. Enter the transfer reference, add a screenshot and send.
- Owners abroad see plans priced in dollars. Owners in Ethiopia see plans in birr.
- Each transaction ID can be used only once. Track your requests at the bottom of the Subscription screen: Waiting, Approved or Rejected (with the reason).
- When a subscription ends, the app becomes read-only for a short grace period and then locked. Your data stays safe, and selling resumes as soon as you renew.
13Offline and sync
- NIMO saves everything on your phone first. With no internet you can sell, add stock and count. Changes upload by themselves when you are back online.
- More, then Sync, shows what is waiting to upload and anything the server did not accept, with the reason. Tap Try again, or undo a rejected change.
- If two phones sold the last item while both were offline, stock can show below zero after syncing. Count the shelf to fix it.
14Language, calendar and currency
- More, then Language: English, አማርኛ, Afaan Oromoo or ትግርኛ.
- More, then Calendar: Ethiopian or Gregorian dates.
- More, then Currency (owner): choose birr or one of 20 other currencies. Changing it does not convert your prices or past sales, so check your prices afterwards.
- More, then “Export to CSV”: send your sales or your stock to Excel or Google Sheets by WhatsApp, email or Drive.
15Troubleshooting
- Camera does not scan: allow the camera for NIMO in your phone settings, hold the phone steady about 15 cm from the barcode, and use the torch button in low light. You can always type the code instead.
- Cannot sell an item: it is out of stock, or your subscription has ended. Add stock or renew.
- A sale or change says it was rejected: open More, then Sync to read the reason.
- App is out of date: More, then App version, shows when an update is available. Tap it to download.
- Still stuck? Contact us with the details at the bottom of this page.
